Upgrades 1. Motamec Mirrors and Mounts

If you have attached the default mirrors to the Caterham and then taken it for a drive, you would know that they are completely pointless. I've got a set of spa mirrors (and also some Motamec Carbon mirrors) ready to go on. I can't decide which I want to fit so I'll be giving them both a chance. I also have some aluminium "Eccles" mounts and a DPR fastener to play with.

For me the Motamec mirrors look loads better and they don't have that ugly stainless steel flanged screw on the top of each mirror, they also have a much more reliable fixing mechanism to keep them in place. So I've decided that I will give these a try first even though they are not as convex as the spa mirrors. The aluminium eccles mounts are machined to fit the spa mirrors so I first needed to adjust the Motamec mounts to fit these brackets. The screws that I have to fix these are also designed for a countersunk hole, so I will be swapping these out with some M4x12mm A4 grade black button head screws from Accu to finish the job. Note the Motameks don't need the DPR fastener, which also makes the mirror look a bit of a mess when in place so I'm hoping that these mirrors will be up to the job.

It is worth noting that these mirror mounts allow me to open the door fully without the mirrors knocking into anything so they should make getting in and out of the car a much better experience. Also once on the car the text at the bottom is barely noticeable which is great.

I'm going to toy with the idea of setting up my other spa style mirrors so I can quickly fasten them to the windscreen with the DPR mounts, this means I can potentially drive a few times with the doors off and still see behind me, and will hopefully be hot swappable by the end of it.
